Mystery Snail

The Mystery Snail is the gentle giant of the freshwater hobby. Available in beautiful colors like Ivory, Gold, Blue, and Purple, they are active, fascinating creatures that cruise around the tank on their large muscular foot, cleaning up uneaten food, decaying plant matter, and soft algae. Unlike their notorious cousins (the Apple Snails), true Mystery Snails are completely plant-safe and will not devour your aquascape. They are incredibly fun to watch, especially when they reach the top of the glass, let go, and 'parasnail' down to the bottom. They require calcium-rich water to maintain their large, golf-ball-sized shells. If kept in pairs, they may lay large, pinkish egg clutches above the water line.

💡 Interesting Facts
- • They lay their eggs outside of the water. If you don't want babies, simply scrape the pink egg clutch off the glass before it hatches.
- • They have both gills and a siphon tube that acts like a snorkel, allowing them to breathe atmospheric air when oxygen levels are low.
- • Despite their size, they are extremely peaceful and have no means of harming tankmates.
