Pygmy Corydoras

Adult size and space

About 3 cm standard length. Use a tank base of at least 45 × 30 cm, with soft sand or smooth substrate, resting leaves and swimming room; roughly 40 litres is a useful starting point.

Group and water

Keep at least six, preferably ten or more. Reference conditions: 22–26°C and pH 6.4–7.4, preferably soft water. Choose tankmates with overlapping requirements and keep water quality stable.

Feeding and compatibility

Feed small sinking prepared foods and tiny live or frozen foods. They need their own meals, not leftovers alone. Avoid large or aggressive fish; tiny shrimplets may be eaten.

Species identity

Gastrodermus pygmaeus is the current name used by the reference, formerly Corydoras pygmaeus. Pygmy Corydoras remains the familiar trade name. This is not Corydoras habrosus or the tail-spot dwarf cory.

Arrival and support

Prepare a mature aquarium and check its temperature and water chemistry before arrival. Ask us for transfer guidance suited to your water and transit conditions; do not apply a fixed acclimation time to every shipment. Keep shipping water out of the aquarium.
